The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially opened the application portal for the Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG), a flagship initiative under the Renewed Hope Agenda designed to transform student-led innovations into commercially viable, high-impact ventures.
Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, announced the launch on Friday, noting that the scheme offers up to N50 million in equity-free seed funding to student innovators.

Minister of Education, Chief Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the initiative reflects President Bola Tinubu’s directive to identify groundbreaking innovations and nurture them into major tech successes.
“The President has challenged us to look for the next moonshot within our tertiary institutions,” Alausa said. “We are not just seeking projects; we are scouting for future Nigerian unicorns with roots planted in our universities and colleges. This is an equity-free investment in Nigeria’s future.”
The grant targets student founders developing solutions in STEMM fields such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences and is open to all students enrolled in accredited tertiary institutions.
The S-VCG programme includes a comprehensive support framework featuring:
-
Mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs and industry experts
-
Access to tools, platforms, and technical resources needed to scale
-
Intensive incubation programmes and entrepreneurship training
The initiative is powered through a collaboration between the Ministry of Education and Google, leveraging Gemini AI to strengthen digital entrepreneurship and innovation among Nigerian students.
“This programme will expose students to world-class mentorship and partnerships with globally recognised enterprises,” officials said.
