As rising living costs squeeze household finances, digital financial services provider PalmPay is encouraging Nigerians to adopt structured savings as a way to build wealth and secure their long-term financial future.

In a statement, the company said it is promoting savings products in its Wealth section, which gives customers different ways to set money aside, earn interest and work towards personal financial goals.

A customer’s N1m goal

PalmPay pointed to the experience of one customer, who shared his story on X. He said a structured savings plan helped him work towards a N1m target.

According to the account, he started saving on January 22, 2026, using scheduled daily contributions, and expects his payout on December 10. He anticipates receiving more than N1m and plans to use part of it to support widows in his neighbourhood, celebrate Christmas with his family and prepare financially for 2027.

PalmPay said the story shows how regular saving, even in relatively small amounts, can help people plan for important responsibilities and future needs.

The savings products

The company said the Wealth section offers interest rates of up to 20 per cent per annum, so customers can choose products that fit their circumstances and goals. The options are:

Product What it offers
Cash Box Daily interest, with access to funds for withdrawals, transfers and bill payments
Target Savings Lets users set a financial goal, choose contribution amounts and automate deposits daily, weekly or monthly
SafeBox Manual or automated contributions, daily interest and four free withdrawal days a year
Spend & Save Automatically sets aside a pre-set amount whenever customers make transfers or payments
Fixed Savings Funds locked for seven to 1,000 days, with interest of up to 18 per cent a year

Formal savings on the rise

PalmPay noted that the shift towards formal saving is reflected in national data. According to EFInA’s 2026 Access to Financial Services in Nigeria survey, the share of Nigerian adults saving formally rose from 38 per cent in 2023 to 53 per cent in 2026. Overall financial inclusion reached 79 per cent.

The company said its savings solutions are meant to make financial planning more accessible, helping customers build emergency funds, meet personal targets and prepare for future expenses.

PalmPay added that building wealth does not necessarily require large sums. What matters, it said, is consistency, financial discipline and choosing savings options that match individual goals.
