Who we are

Fintech Insights is a Lagos-based digital publication covering fintech, banking, payments, lending, markets, investments and financial regulation in Nigeria and across Africa. We report the news, explain what it means, and give readers the information they need to understand the financial services that affect their money and businesses.

Our mission

We aim to be accurate, fair, clear and useful. Our readers include consumers, small business owners, professionals, regulators and industry leaders, and we write for all of them in plain language.

Our standards

Accuracy. We verify facts, figures, names, dates and quotes before publishing. We check numbers against primary sources where possible, such as regulator statements, company filings, official data releases and direct interviews. When we cannot confirm a claim, we say so or leave it out.

Fairness and balance. We give people and organisations that are criticised or named in a story a fair chance to respond before publication. If they do not respond, we say that we reached out.

Independence. Our editorial decisions are made by our editorial team. Advertisers, partners, sponsors and companies we cover do not control what we report, how we report it or whether we publish a story.

Sourcing. We name our sources whenever we can. We use anonymous sources only when there is a clear public interest and a risk to the source, and the editor knows who the source is. We do not publish information from unverified social media posts without checking it.

Attribution. We credit original reporting by others and link to it where appropriate. We do not copy the work of other publishers. Press releases and company statements are identified as such and checked before use.

Speed and care. We aim to be fast, but we do not publish in a way that sacrifices accuracy. Breaking news may be updated as facts emerge, and updates are labelled.

Partner and sponsored content

Some content on Fintech Insights is provided by or paid for by companies, including content in our Partners section. This content is always labelled clearly, Partner Content” or “Sponsored”. It is separate from our independent reporting. Commercial links in sponsored content use the appropriate link attributes. Sponsors do not receive editorial control over our independent coverage, and payment does not guarantee positive coverage.

Financial information disclaimer

Our content is for information and education only. It is not financial, investment, tax or legal advice. Readers should do their own research and consult a qualified professional before making financial decisions. Financial products carry risk, and past performance does not guarantee future results.

Conflicts of interest

Our journalists and editors must disclose any financial or personal interest in a company or subject they are covering, and may be removed from the story. Gifts, travel or hospitality from sources must not influence coverage, and any significant offer must be declined or reported to the Editor-in-Chief.

Use of artificial intelligence

We may use AI tools to support research, transcription, translation or editing. A human editor reviews and takes responsibility for everything we publish. We do not publish AI-generated content without human review and fact-checking.

Images and multimedia

We use original, licensed or properly credited images. We do not alter photos or videos in ways that mislead readers. Illustrations and stock images are labelled where needed.

Comments and reader contributions

We welcome comments and contributions. We may remove comments that are abusive, defamatory, unlawful or off-topic. Contributed pieces are reviewed and edited before publication.
